Week 21 Challenge

Things are still going along.  I'm enjoying this little journey and opportunity.  With it heating up outside I tend to get more still life or things around the house.

Challenge: Low Key

Not fully understand what constituents a Low key shot I got into this and I think this is a poor example of low key.  But it was fun doing this project.  This is a Lego flower (constructed by Betty and two adult grandsons).

Challenge: Shadow

Lots of opportunities for shadows.  As I was waling into the Museum of Natural Science I walked through the "tunnel" of trees and was struck with the shapes and texture of the shadows on the path through the park that surrounds the museum.

Challenge: Uncomfortable (Again)

DPS is doubling up on the challenges (Must be getting lazy down under.)  The idea taking pictures of strangers is getting more comfortable.  This is a picture of Ashley our waitress at a BJs Brew House in Aurora Colorado as we got into town for a visit with our family there.

Funny thing about this I was the third person to ask her for her picture this week.  One was kind of a "restaurant crawl" where they had to stop at a different restaurant for each course and get a picture of the wait staff and the food.  The other person taking pictures was on a challenge like I am.

Comic Palooza 2023

 Went downtown Houston to shoot pictures of the "strange" costumes and people at the Comic Palooza.  Somewhat disappointed in the lack of costumes and fun stuff.  Did not go onto the exhibit floor as the cost for Saturday was $75.00  and I cannot justify the expense for this as I am not into the myself.  It was fun what I did see.  I mostly stayed outside, then I figured out the I could get into the lobby.  But the best pictures were outside. 

Week 20 Challenge

Week 20 and the challenges are still being answered.  Even though I was traveling I took my laptop along and got-er-done

Hi key image of my great grandson.  We had a family gathering and celebrated a birthday and graduation.  Here he is eating some chocolate cake

Our traveling included watching a grandson's flag football game.  Here he is with his mouthpiece in place and  making a face shoot from way down low.

Challenge - Uncomfortable

Another opportunity of shooting in a state of discomfort.  The intent is the old take a picture of someone that possibly would make you uncomfortable i.e. stranger or street photography.  After a similar challenge from 52 Frames challenge back in Week 4 I have learned how to step out of my comfort zone asking a stranger to take their picture. Establishing a rapport and complimenting them makes it easier.   

This week I had submitted two images because I could and it is getting easier.

This young lady works at a local shop where I occasionally get a cup of coffee. She had been wearing braces and just had them removed the day before and was proud of her smile.so she was happy to share her new look. (and was easy to ask to take her picture).

My second uncomfortable image was taken in the mall on my walk.  This young man works in shoe store and is very outgoing.  I liked his hair style and complimented him on his hair establishing a rapport. 

Week 19 Challenge

 The saga continues.  Made it to Week 19.  Next week challenges will be interesting as I am going to be traveling.  We shall see what happens, can't let down now.

 Submitted a supplemental this week.  Yes there was water in the hose and dripping off this one.

I know not taken from the window but taken through the window, but the window was involved.

Again I did a supplemental (maybe for taken the first through the window)

Week 17 Challenge

 The challenge continues.  BUT I failed this week, I only completed 2 of the three.  Bummer and I was doing so good.  But not to get stuck in the past onward and forward I go.

Challenge - One Light Source

For this one I just step into the back yard and shot the conversation pit in my pergola.  This was shot using a tripod, and a flashlight with a cardboard tube to control the light, A LA light painting, using my Sony A7 III, and the 24-70 mm lens at 28 mm, timing at 4 sec, F/3.5, ISO 200.

Challenge - Behind the Scene

The idea for this challenge is to show what it took to take a picture.  For this I did a short cut and used my 52 Frame Challenge and take a picture with my iPhone of the set up to get the image.  

You see the camera on the tripod with the shutter release hanging out the left side of camera, laying on the table is the flashlight in the cardboard tube and the black backdrop hanging in the back  in the 1st picture.  The second picture is the same as in 52 Frames.

Challenge - Window Light Portrait

This is whare I failed.  I do not get inspired to take portraits, thus this week I failed.  I need to overcome this challenge in the future.
